A 12-week (75 Minutes) camp geared for our 8 to 11 year old students who have MESSY handwriting! This course is an intensive camp utilizing occupational therapy-based interventions to: - Identify problem areas in the child's writing - Analyze intrinsic muscle strength/functioning via grasp and dexterity abilities - Strategically target identified problem areas in a methodical fashion to improve overall legibility - Offer recommendations on accommodations (e.g. adapted pencils, papers, slant boards, work spaces) to help set the child up for success. Every activity is taught with a focus on a multi-sensory approach to learning, starting each session with a sensorimotor obstacle course to assist with regulation and strengthening! WHO: Appropriate for Children (8 to 11 year olds) who are in school / homeschooled. - 1 to 2 Adults to 6 T.OTs per group. - Each group is run by a licensed/registered pediatric occupational therapist. WHAT: A hybrid of using the Handwriting Without Tears book and curriculum created by Ms. Jennell (@ot.umma) to target identified areas such as: - Problem Letters (e.g. Dive Letters, Magic C letters, "e," Diagonal Uppercase Letters) - Sentence Pragmatics (e.g. spacing in between letters, spacing between words in a sentence, letter placement on wide-ruled, college-ruled paper, or adapted paper) WHEN: COHORT A: (Tuesdays) 2/6/24 - 4/30/24 || 4:30 to 5:45 PM **NO SESSIONS: Spring Break (4/7/24 - 4/14/24). Mandatory $30 materials fee. IMPORTANT-- PLEASE READ: A mandatory 30 minute screener will be held prior to the start of the camp for $50. If the child is determined to be a good fit for the program, the money will be applied to the remaining cost of the program. If it is determined that this program may not be the right fit, and if no other programs available are appropriate at this time, then the $50 will be applied towards the individual consultation that will be provided after the screener for tips and strategies to work on at home.
